Artist Nunzio Miano Image: Instagram
The son of Sicilian immigrants, artist Nunzio Miano explores his rich cultural heritage juxtaposed with his upbringing in suburban Australia. Mining the idea of identity, his work is colourful, expressive and full of emotion - the creative energy loud, and sometimes dark, on the canvas. Here, five gorgeous rooms that show the transformative power of his art in space.

‘Madonna of Tindari’ brings warmth, character and femininity to the dining room of Nunzio’s best friend’s home in Melbourne. [Space styled by Carli Philips for Belle Magazine.]

Nunzio’s more abstract work sets off this Yacht Race navy wall. Porter’s Paints’ signature egg-shell finish means no sheen or other distraction can take away from the paintwork and the eyes are instantly drawn to this hero of the room.

The pared-back interior of this 1970s brick beach house in Sorrento is the perfect blank canvas for Nunzio’s colourful accent. It sits in good company on a minimal gallery wall that brings a sense of restraint and calm to this coastal retreat.

If you’re in Sydney, you can see more of Nunzio’s work in his latest solo exhibition, Citizens of the State, open 13 May to 22 May (2021) at Curatorial+Co.
It explores the current state of humanity and where we go from here. The restriction of movement, freedom and physical touch has caused us all to reevaluate the way in which we live. Nunzio’s works explore the gamut of emotions felt throughout this period with the powerful, bold palettes and mark-making depicting the cross-cultural and cross-continental emotional struggle shared over the past year.
